Gender tests

My big anatomy ultrasound is coming up in a couple of weeks, and we're hoping to find out what this baby is. Our last two children were "surprises", but because it has been so long since we've had a newborn.... we have a lot of shopping to do! Unfortunately, there isn't very much gender neutral stuff available for purchase so finding out if this is a boy or girl will make things a lot easier.

I decided to try out a few of the Old Wive's Tales for gender prediction, and then we can see how well they worked for this little guy/girl!

You add your age at the time of conception and the number for the month you conceived.
~ If the sum is an even number - It might be a boy.
~ If the sum is an odd number - It might be a girl.
I was 30, and according to the due date calendar, we conceived around March 2nd... so 30 + 3 = 33. Odd = GIRL.

Another one states:
"This an easy baby gender prediction method to try. Take a pin, needle, or wedding ring and attach it to a thread or strand of hair. Hold the dangling item over mom to be's belly while she is lying down. If the needle or wedding ring swings in a strong circular motion, you will be having a girl. If it moves in a to and fro motion like a pendulum, you will be having a boy."

I tried this 3 times with a needle and embroidery thread, and all three times it swang in a circular motion, which means GIRL.

Another Old Wive's Tale claims that if the baby's heart rate is >145 bpm, it's a girl. <145 bpm, and it's a boy. This baby's heartrate has been 160-165 each time, which says, GIRL.

Have you heard of any other old wive's tale that predict whether a baby is a boy or a girl?

My first Itty Bitty Baby Dress

I bought this cute pillowcase a while back, but it had just been languishing away in my fabric bin. I decided to try out the FREE Made by Rae pattern for an Itty Bitty Baby Dress. Because I used a pillowcase, I was able to use the existing hem for the skirt. I decided to skip the piping because it scared me a little bit, having never used it before.

Our Pirate Party

For Cecilia's 8th birthday and Niko's 6th birthday, we celebrated in Pirate style. Our plans had to changed around a bit because of an unexpected rainstorm that rolled in for just that one day... so instead of bounce houses and ball pits, we played party games inside.

Still here!

Hi world.

I'm still here.

Just have a lot of stuff on my plate right now. Wondering how other busy moms find the time to write on their blogs.

I was in a time crunch to finish a bunch of stuff for a baby shower a couple of weeks ago. Got everything done by the night before... a crocheted afghan and a bunch of cute little beaded socks.

Busily planning a joint birthday party for Cecilia (just turned 8) and Nicholas (turning 6 in a couple of weeks). It's the first birthday party I've planned in 10 years, as the kids usually choose to do other stuff for their birthdays... we always give them the option - "You can have a birthday party, or you can _______." Fill in that blank with "go to Chuck E Cheese, go horseback riding, go minigolfing, go out to dinner, etc." and the kids for the most part pick to do something other than have a party. So, I've been planning for this party for the last month. Rented a bounce house. Bought decorations. Cleaned up the back yard as it gets neglected over the winter months. And now? a 70% chance of rain on Saturday. Heaven help me, I'm going to have to host this thing inside and plan party games for a bunch of Kindergarteners and 2nd graders.

I have a bunch more projects to work on after this weekend. I am NOT letting myself start anything else until this is done with. I need to make at least two more baby afghans, and finish up my 12 preemie hats challenge from last year... I petered out half way through that.

I don't really want to even look at my 2009 Goal List. I have a feeling I failed miserably on it.

Until later....
