For Cecilia's 8th birthday and Niko's 6th birthday, we celebrated in Pirate style. Our plans had to changed around a bit because of an unexpected rainstorm that rolled in for just that one day... so instead of bounce houses and ball pits, we played party games inside.

Happy Halloween!
Nicholas was Zurg (from Toy Story).
Cecilia was a homemade bee (melt your heart moment, while I was making her costume she hugged me and said "you're the bestest mom ever, making me a costume instead of just buying it)... she wanted to be a bee because "I want to get back at all those stupid bees that sting me". Love that seven year old's logic. (Antenna and wings from the 99c store)
Abigail was a witch - she used last year's costume again, we just added a pair of witch costume pants underneath to make it a little longer.
Sabrina was a "vampire fairy".
Nathanial was the "candy cop" and spent the evening handing out candy to all of the trick or treaters... after setting up speakers, a strobe light, a black light, and a fog machine. Our house was a hit.

Time to play "Ketchup".
Last week was busy with all of the "usual" stuff... the daily laundry, dishes, matriculation, and such. On Friday I played hooky from my chores for a couple of hours and visited a friend.
Saturday morning I was able to finally do some "me" shopping to try to replenish my very sad and neglected wardrobe. Using birthday money and gift cards I purchased 6 new tees, a camp shirt w/ matching cami, 2 pairs of jeans, a hoodie, a pair of flip flops, a pair of mary jane tennies, and 2 pairs of sock "liners". I need to buy a few more cheap $5 tees before I feel truly comfortable throwing out almost all of my stained/holey/bleached out shirts. I do need to keep a few for cleaning the bathroom and painting. Saturday afternoon was another baseball game of course.
Sunday afternoon I got to take Nicholas to see his very first play. We saw a stage adaptation of "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie" which happens to be his favorite series of books. He had a BLAST!

Today, in between grocery shopping, laundry, dishes, etc. I found the time to put a few coats of spray paint on two flower pots. The white stripes on these have been flaking off, and I just wasn't as "in love" with the bright color as I was when I bought them (on deep-clearance of course). I like them much better in their new coat of "hammered bronze" and will be filling them with mums for the season. Is it such a bad sin to use fake mums in them for a few weeks, since I will undoubtedly kill off real mums before the season is over?

Out of the mouths of babes....
"Mommy, that little boy speaks Hola and our kind of language. But he only speaks one of them at a time. Because he doesn't have two mouths. That would be weird and silly, huh? If he had two mouths?" - Niko, age 5

So much life going on...
...that it's hard to keep up with the blogging.
Tuesday, park day... I took the littles and my Dad to a park we have passed many times on the freeway while heading to the beach. The little ponds looked so inviting, and when I learned that fishing was allowed, it seemed like a natural choice.

We left the park with 18 tiny little crappie, and a sunburned Mommy. ::::Note to self: just because it's overcast when you leave the house, it doesn't mean that you should skip the sunscreen::::
Wednesday was supposed to be our art day, but I really needed to tackle some housekeeping that had been put off. I told the kids that if they got all of the living room picked up, then we'd do a project... they didn't. But I did get caught up on the dishes and tackled a lot of laundry! I also took Sierra to the vet again with my Dad, as she had grown another large mammary tumor (and she's also developed hypothyroidism). That poor dog is going through a lot for dog that is barely three years old. They did another surgery to remove it, and when we picked her up today (Thursday) she already looked so much better. Her right leg had been swelling up as well, and the swelling was down a lot today and she was very lively and playful. Hopefully her recovery from this 3rd surgery will be a lot smoother and quicker, and we won't have to deal with any complications while she heals.
That brings us to today... we got all of our work done in the morning as usual, but I didn't have a hike planned yet because I knew we would be picking Sierra up at some point. After we picked her up and had lunch, I decided it would be nice to hit a small local park that is more of a walking trails park than a "real" hike, but the kids like to explore the riparian area there. They also decided that they wanted to try finding some geocaches.
We ended up finding all four of the geocaches we set out looking for! What fun! After finding our caches, we headed to the park to have our snack and play. They met a couple of girls who were trying to find some baby turtles that they had released last week, and before I knew it they were running amok as usual. Jumping over the stream, scrambling over trees, ducking under the bridge, and playing soccer on the bridge. Such busy little bees!

I know, I know... I'm not keeping up too well with the whole Picture Every Day thing, but sometimes there's just really not anything to take pictures of. I've been spending a lot of the last week working on cleaning out the closets and trying to stay on top of all of the chores, so there's not much "fun stuff" or anything even interesting to take pictures of!
Niko wanted a picture with this firetruck on our way in to the grocery store on Monday.
